The birthing of a brand

It’s almost alive.

David and I have started the fire and now we’re busy marinating? the beefcakes before they get thrown on the grill (who barbecues meat pies?). T-shirts are a lot of work. Who knew you actually had to design the tags and stickers, make a website, and open a bank account? Well, actually I’ve been sort of supervising while David does the dirty work. Ganbatte (do your best), David.

This brings me to my observation about partnerships. Doing things alone sucks. It’s hard to stay motivated and there’s no other guy to leave everything to. Think about the greatest achievements in history. Sure, emperor Chin gets the credit for the Great Wall of China but he didn’t build it by himself. He didn’t even lay a single brick. He had laborers do that. The invention of airplanes? There was no Wright only child; there were the Wright brothers. If not for David’s skill at using Adobe Illustrator and my penchant for armchair criticism of another’s results we wouldn’t be on the verge of launching a line of T-shirts.

Half truths aside, Kobe Beefcake is our interpretation of Kobe and Japan in a fun, fashionable package. If it’s eclectic, that’s because Kobe is an eclectic mix of the Western and the Japanese. If it’s cute and colorful, that’s because much in Japan is so. Kobe Beefcake is not only a partnership between me and David, but a collaboration between us and Kobe, Japan.

Love Peace &Sexy,

Terrance
